March 29, 2025 NAWOJ Akwa Ibom Empowers Business Women to Mark International Women’s Day

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has extended financial support to petty traders across the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State as part of activities marking International Women’s Day.

The initiative, aimed at empowering small-scale female entrepreneurs, provided grants to help beneficiaries expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

During the event held at the NUJ Centre, the Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Comrade Nsikak Okon, and the Chairman of the occasion, Mrs. Akaninyene Uwemedimo, spoke on the importance of supporting women’s independence.

In line with the global theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, which focuses on women’s economic empowerment and enhancing their potential, the keynote speaker, Barrister Emem Ette, encouraged women to create value for themselves while also embracing the virtue of submission.

The union reaffirmed its commitment to promoting initiatives that enhance opportunities for women’s empowerment.
