The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly passed into law “A Bill for a Law to Provide for the Establishment of the Akwa Ibom State University of Education, Afaha Nsit, and to Make Provisions for Its Administration and Other Connected Matters.”
This decision followed a report presented to the House by the Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Hon. KENIM ONOFIOK, during yesterday’s plenary session.
In presenting the report, Hon. ONOFIOK emphasized that the bill is designed to provide high-quality teacher education programs and create opportunities for Akwa Ibom children seeking admission into degree-awarding institutions. The university established under this bill will facilitate these opportunities.
As a result, the bill was passed into law and will take effect today, Thursday, 13 March 2025, as announced by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. UDEME OTONG.
It is worth noting that on Wednesday, 26 February 2025, the House Committee on Education held a public hearing to gather inputs from stakeholders in the development of the bill.
