The People of OkoriItak community in Ibeno Local Government Area has appealed to the state government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and well-meaning individuals to help restore drinkable water for the community.
The people made the appeal when a humanitarian group, Action AIDS, partnered with the Clement Isong Foundation to visit the community with the aim of bringing the plight of the oil communities in Ibeno to the limelight.
They complained that lack of maintenance of the dilapidated water project, which was installed for them in 2005, has forced them to resort to an abandoned weed-infested shallow oil well as the only source of water.
Speaking with Newsmen, the youth president of OkoriItak, Mr. OKON VICTOR ITRECHIO, complained about the negligence by the government and Network Exploration and Production Nigeria, anOil company operating in the area despite having agreements and receiving several letters from the community for intervention.
Speaking further, another member of the community, Mr. Joseph Nana, called for help to make the community have sustainable and portable water to drink.
