One person was feared dead as armed security operatives clashed with protesters marching to Eagle Square from MKO Abiola National Stadium at the Central Business District junction.
Still on day two of the protest in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, the demonstration took another twist as policemen stationed at the Otovwodo axis of the East-West road allegedly shot and injured a yet-to-be-identified protester.
In Akwa Ibom, the police tear-gassed the crowd to disperse the protesters numbering about 15 as they gathered momentum at Ibom Plaza, Uyo. The incident started when the police on guard urged the protesters to vacate the area and move to Cenotaph, Unity Park, along Udo Udoma Avenue.
The Inspector General of Police, KAYODE EGEBETOKUN, said that police did not violate the “fundamental rights” of any of the protesters.
Mr. EGBETOKUN, in a statement released last night, said the police acted professionally in Abuja and other states where protests occurred despite the violent activities of some rioters who infiltrated the protests.
