In order to bridge the significant funding shortfall in its fight against tuberculosis – TB, and achieve the goal of eliminating it by 2030, the Federal government has struck a 50 million dollar (80 billion naira) funding deal with the private sector.
Currently, only 6 percent of the National TB budget comes from domestic sources, leaving a 70 percent funding gap and a critical shortage that has hindered the widespread implementation of innovative TB interventions and the execution of the 2021-2026 TB National Strategic Plan.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. MOHAMMED ALI PATE, who disclosed this in Lagos, said the federal government would contribute 25 million dollars to match the 25 million dollars financial commitment made by the private sector towards the goal.
