Following the outbreak of cholera in some states, the Ondo State Government has explained measures it has taken to curb the spread of the disease in the state.
Â
The state Commissioner for Health, BANJI AJAKA, said on Monday that the state has activated its surveillance for immediate response to any case of cholera in the state.
Â
The commissioner added that an incident management system would be set up through the EOC, facilitating case detection, isolation and treatment of cases, including complications.
Â
AJAKA appealed to citizens to maintain a high level of personal and food hygiene and report promptly to the hospital in case of diarrhoea and vomiting.
Also, the Abia State Government has said that there is no cholera in the state and also affirmed that all 109 suspected cases reported in six LGAs of the state between January and June 2024 were all confirmed negative.
Â
The position was made known by the Abia State Ministry of Health in an updated report covering January to June 2024 in response to the recent alert by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, about increasing cholera cases nationwide.
According to the state epidemiologist, ELEZUO ELEZUO, and Director of Public Health and Disease Control in the ministry, Dr ORIE AGOMUO, 109 suspected cases of cholera were reported in six LGAs but only two samples tested positive after rapid diagnosis testing, RDT.
Â
It however noted that prevention and rapid response measures have been put in place by the ministry to ensure that Abia remains cholera-free.
Â
Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom state commissioner for health, Prof AUGUSTINE UMOH will speak to the preparedness of the state against cholera and answer questions bordering on the roles of citizens towards its prevention.
