July 6, 2021 AKWA IBOM AGENCY FOR CONTROL OF AIDS URGES CITIZENS TO TEST FOR HIV TO KNOW STATUS

There is emphasis on citizens knowing their HIV Status by testing, which is available in Public and Private Health facilities across Akwa Ibom state.

The reiteration for HIV testing is coming on a Day where Nigeria joins other countries to mark the World HIV Testing event, targeting awareness creation on HIV testing to increase the number of persons who know their Status.

This was also the focus of an interview the Project Manager Akwa Ibom state Agency for the Control of AIDS, AK-SACA, Dr ARTHUR IGBEMI had with Inspiration FM’s Health Correspondent, IMA DEM.

Dr IGBEMI says as countries mark the World HIV testing today June 27, if more resident of the state know their HIV status; it gets more realistic aiming at epidemic control.

Speaking about access to testing for HIV, the AK-SACA Project Manager noted that testing can be done at health care facilities in the state, even as self-testing at the comfort of the homes makes it convenient to determine one’s status.

Dr ARTHUR IGBEMI urged every resident of the State to get tested, re-echoing that being HIV positive is not a death sentence.

Our correspondent underscores that Stakeholders are keen on the National HIV Testing Day 2021 theme; “My test, My Way “which encourages individual contribution towards ending the HIV epidemic.
