Senate Advocates For National Security Summit To Tackle Insecurity

The Senate has called for immediate convocation of a National Security Summit to address insecurity in the country.

This followed a point of order raised by Senator AYO AKINYELURE over the killing of Mrs. FUNKE OLAKUNRIN, daughter of Pa REUBEN FASORANTI, a leader of the Afenifere Group, who was shot dead by gunmen along Akure-Ore Road in Ondo State on Friday.

AKINYELURE expressed concern over the killing and similar ones, which he described as “increasing and incessant murder of innocent Nigerians by gunmen along major highways in the country.”

While Senator TOLU ODEBIYI called on the Senate to meet with the presidency and security formations to take immediate action, the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, AJAYI BOROFACE, urged his colleagues to be cautious about linking a particular tribe as perpetrators of the attacks.

The President of the Senate, AHMAD LAWAN, on his submission equally lamented the situation, which he said was being felt across the country. The Senate in its resolution clearly condemned the killings, calling on the Inspector General of Police to extend his dragnet to fish out the perpetrators.

FFK Warns Miyetti Allah Over Call For OBJ’s Arrest

Former Minister of Aviation, FEMI FANI-KAYODE, has cautioned Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore over its call for the arrest of former President OLUSEGUN OBASANJO.

The National Secretary of the group, ALHASSAN SALEH, had criticised the former President over his letter to President MUHAMMADU BUHARI warning that the insecurity in the country could reach genocidal proportions.

But FANI-KAYODE, in a statement today, dared president BUHARI to arrest OBASANJO. He described the call for the former President’s arrest as “reckless, irresponsible, dangerous and unacceptable.”

The former minister stated that OBASANJO was attempting to save Nigeria from another civil war, adding that those who opposed the former President’s counsel failed to appreciate the fact that in the event of such a war, they would suffer more than anyone else.
