Boko Haram highly degraded – Buratai

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. TUKUR BURATAI, claimed that the Boko Haram terrorists had been “highly degraded” and that there was no resurgence of insurgency in the North-East as being insinuated in some quarters.

BURATAI, who spoke in Jaji at the graduation of 55 Special Forces from “Advance Water Markship Training”, however, said: “in warfare, one must suffer some setbacks”.

There have been media reports of terrorists’ attacks on troops in the North-East in which they claimed a number of soldiers had been killed.

The army, however, denied the attack and loss of personnel.

National Health Care: FG Approves Six Trillion Naira For Five Years

The federal government has approved the sum of six trillion naira for a comprehensive national health care plan that would run for the next five years.

The Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole told state house correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting that 38.2% of the amount is earmarked for Human Resources, 34% for medical supplies and 7% for infrastructure.

According to the minister, the health plan is expected to run from 2018-2022, and it will be implemented in all the 36 states and the federal capital territory, Abuja.

The minister explained that the federal government is reengineering the nation’s health sector under the previous plan 1, which ran between 2010-2015 was unable to achieve all of its 52 targets.

A former governor of Kano state, Ibrahim Shekarau has confirmed his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Shekarau announced his defection after a closed-door meeting with national Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomhole and Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

He said his reason for moving to the APC was because of the current political situation in the country, and expressed his pride at being one of those that began the process that led to the emergence of the APC

Senator Shehu Sani Kicks Against Indirect Primaries Adopted By Kaduna Apc

The Senator representing Kaduna Central at the National Assembly, Shehu Sani has disagreed with the adoption of indirect primary by the Kaduna State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, had announced the adoption of indirect primary for all elective positions, except that of the president but it later rescinded its decision, clamouring for direct primary for all positions.

This created rancour among members of the ruling party across the country.

However, addressing journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) press centre, Kaduna, shortly after the NEC meeting,

Sani said while he respects the view of the Kaduna Chapter, Direct primary will uproot money politics and godfatherism from the system.
