ASUU EMBARKS ON INDEFINITE STRIKE OVER POOR FUNDING

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has resumed its industrial action over poor funding and sundry issues.

The university lecturers took this decision at the end of the National Executive Council meeting of ASUU held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

National President of ASUU, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, who announced the union’s decision, highlights some of their demands.

Meanwhile, ASUU Chairman, UNILAG chapter, Dr Dele Ashiru, has confirmed that lecturers of the university have joined the national strike announced by the union<strong>.</strong>

The ASUU chapter at the Lagos State University (LASU) is also on strike.

EFCC RE-ARRAIGNS EX OYO STATE GOVERNOR, RASHEED LADOJA OVER N4.7 BILLION FRAUD

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has re-arraigned a former Governor of Oyo State, Rasheed Ladoja on an amended 11-count charge bordering on an alleged 4.7 billion naira fraud.

Ladoja was arraigned alongside Wahab Akanbi before Justice Mohammed Idris at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The duo was first arraigned in 2008 before Justice Ramat Mohammed of the Federal High Court but they challenged the validity of the charges all the way to the Supreme Court over a period of seven years before the apex court in 2015 dismissed their appeal and sent them back to the high court to face their trial.

They both pleaded not guilty to the amended charges and the presiding judge, Justice Idris has fixed November 12 to rule on the no-case submission applications filed by the defendants.

CONTROVERSY TRAILS ONDO APC PRIMARY AS SENATORIAL ASPIRANT, TUNJI ABAYOMI THREATENS TO DUMP PARTY

An aspirant for the Ondo North Senatorial district, Dr Tunji Abayomi, has threatened to dump the party ahead of the forthcoming general election.

Dr Abayomi who spoke to Correspondent Lara Jimi-Olabode from Akure, the Ondo state capital, accused the APC of illegally substituting his name with that of Senator Ajayi Borofice who was defeated in the primaries.

He therefore charged the APC National leadership to retrace its steps and obey the party constitution.

Meanwhile, the APC National Vice Chairman in the South West, Mr. Bankole Oluwajana promised that all issues concerning the party primaries are being resolved.
