INEC declares APC Oyetola winner of Osun gov election

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, GBOYEGA OYETOLA, as the Governor-elect of Osun State.

The rerun of the Osun State governorship election was held in seven polling units across four council areas yesterday with the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, GBOYEGA OYETOLA, beating the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, ADEMOLA ADELEKE.

Returning officer, Prof. JOSEPH FUWAPE, declared that the APC candidate, OYETOLA, won the governorship election by scoring a total number of 255,505 votes while ADELEKE of the PDP polled 255,023 votes.

This was, however, met with protests by ADELEKE, his party, the PDP, and the Coalition of United Political Parties, among others.

ADELEKE had won the main election on Saturday with 353 votes after polling 254,698 against OYETOLA’s 254,345.

On Thursday, both candidates relied on 2,637 votes in the seven units where the Independent National Electoral Commission had declared rerun to win the final contest.

Osun rerun: PDP rejects results, says it’s black day for Nigeria

The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has met in Abuja over the conduct of the rerun governorship election in Osun State.

While rejecting it, the party also said that the rerun election was one of the worst days in the history of Nigeria.

It described the election as a black day for the nation.

National Chairman of the party, UCHE SECONDUS who spoke at an emergency meeting lamented that Osun State was put under siege and the citizens’ right trampled upon by security agents.

Similarly, Senate President and PDP presidential aspirant, BUKOLA SARAKI, described the rerun election as a total sham and the biggest electoral fraud in the history of the country.

SARAKI stated this while addressing journalists during his campaign tour in Kaduna State.

APC disqualifies Shittu from guber race over NYSC scandal

The ruling All Progressives Congress has disqualified Minister of communications,ADEBAYO SHITTU from the governorship race over mandatory National Youth Service Corps scandal.

The Minister of Communication, ADEBAYO SHITTU, has been screened out of the Oyo state APC governorship primaries for not possessing the NYSC certificate.

Last week, it was widely reported the Minister’s failure to participate in the mandatory one-year scheme when he graduated from the Obafemi Awolowo University in 1978.

The National Working Committee of the APC, took the decision to screen him out based on the report of the party’s Governorship Aspirants Screening Committee.

The party has also screened out the Minister of Women Affairs, Senator AISHA ALHASSAN, from the Taraba state governorship race with no reason was given.

ALHASSAN was the party’s governorship candidate in Taraba State during the 2015 general elections.

Former Minister of Education, Dr. OBY EZEKWESILI, and founder of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor TUNDE BAKARE are set to join the race to contest the 2019 presidential election against the incumbent, President MUHAMMADU BUHARI.

Pastor BAKARE disclosed this while speaking at an annual freedom rally tagged “This Is My Nigeria” that took place at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos.

He told the gathering that OBY EZEKWESILI is stepping into politics now and that he is also waiting for October 7 to make declaration on his intention.

EZEKWESILI who has not officially declared to run has been a vocal critic of the BUHARI-led government.

Pastor BAKARE, also a vocal critic of the current administration, had previously announced in January 2018 that that God wants him to run despite his plan to quit politics for good
