President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has addressed delegates at the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit at the 73rd United Nations General Assembly.

The Nelson Mandela Peace Summit is one of the side-events of the UN General Assembly Summit.

President BUHARI described the anti-apartheid icon as a man whose lifetime symbolised uncommon humility, compassion, courage and forgiveness.

The President also stated that the world recognizes the contribution of women to advancement of society and their contribution to the prevention and resolution of conflicts.

PDP National Convention: Party leaders disagree over venue

Meanwhile, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP is yet to agree on a venue for its party’s presidential primaries scheduled for October 6.

The party’s Board of Trustees and the National Working Committee NWC’s different positions became evident at the inauguration of the party’s National Convention Planning Committee on Monday in Abuja.

This followed a sharp disagreement between the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator WALID JIBRIN, and the NWC.

Inaugurating the committee, PDP Deputy National Chairman, South Elder, YEMI AKINWONMI, said that the party leaders had consulted widely on the venue and agreed for Port Harcourt, Rivers.

However, JIBRIN, in his remarks said that the party had yet to make final decision on the choice of venue for the convention.

Leah Sharibu’s mother, others sue FG, claim N500m damages

Mrs. REBECCA SHARIBU, the mother of the kidnapped schoolgirl, LEAH SHARIBU, has filed an action at the Federal High Court in Lagos, claiming 500million naira damages.

This is coming, seven months after the abduction of her daughter by the Boko Haram insurgents.

You will recall that, LEAH SHARIBU was one of the 110 female students of Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, who had been held in captivity, since February 19, 2018, by Boko Haram terrorists on account of her Christian faith.

The embattled mother in the suit jointly filed with DANIEL DAVID KADZAI and a US-based Lift-Up-Now Incorporation, an NGO, demanded 500million naira as compensation for the indignities and human deprivations suffered by LEAH, since her abduction in February 2018.

Also joined in the suit were the Inspector-General of Police, IBRAHIM IDRIS and the Minister of Justice, ABUBAKAR MALAMI.

The defendants were joined, over their failure to ensure the release of LEAH SHARIBU and for failing in their statutory responsibilities.

INEC Insists Ayedaade LG Result Sheet ‘Torn By Election Officer’ Contained Wrong Figure

The Independent National Electoral Commission has clarified the controversy, surrounding the election result of Ayedaade Local Government Area, during the Osun State governorship election held on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, OLUSEGUN AGBAJE, insisted that, the result sheet destroyed by MUTIU SALAWU, the electoral officer for Ayedaade, contained the wrong figure.

He noted that the PDP polled 9,836 votes instead of the mistakenly-recorded 10,836 votes.
