EFCC, Customs place Fayose on watch list, to prevent foreign trip

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has written to the Nigeria Customs Service to place the outgoing Ekiti State Governor, AYO FAYOSE, on its watch list and prevent him from leaving the country through any land, air or sea borders.

We learnt the NCS has granted the request and circulated the EFCC directive to its area and zonal commands.

The EFCC Acting Chairman, IBRAHIM MAGU, in a letter dated September 12 to the Customs’ Comptroller General’s office, said that FAYOSE was under investigation and there was a suspicion that he might leave the country to evade the commission’s investigations.

FAYOSE, whose tenure will end on Monday, October 15, had last Monday written to the EFCC chairman, agreeing to report at the EFCC office on October 16 “to clarify issues or answer questions on issues within my knowledge.”

The EFCC had replied FAYOSE in a report on Saturday that he could report at the commission’s headquarters on September 20 for questioning, instead of waiting till his immunity lapsed on October 16.

In a swift reaction, Governor AYO FAYOSE has described as petty the decision of the EFCC to put his name on a watch list.

The governor believes the EFCC’s action was unnecessary especially as he has already informed the anti-graft agency of his willingness to answer any questions they may have for him when he leaves office.

Governor FAYOSE also denied claims that he plans to fly out of the country as soon as his tenure ends and insists that despite intimidation by the EFCC he will remain in the PDP.

Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, LERE OLAYINKA later spoke to us on the issue.

Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI has said those plotting to impeach him after the National Assembly reconvenes would not succeed.

While responding to questions from newsmen at the PDP Secretariat, SARAKI said those who are accusing us of an undue process in the adjournment are unaware that we are in the majority.

He said the decision of the upper chamber of the National Assembly to go on recess was unanimously agreed and in accordance to the rule of law.

PDP welcomes Dogara back, says return courageous

The Peoples Democratic Party has welcomed the Speaker of the House of Representatives, YAKUBU DOGARA, back to its fold.

It also described his return as a courageous response to the party’s call on compatriots to rally with it and rescues Nigeria.

DOGARA had last week, through his aides, collected the PDP nomination and expression of interest forms.

Though he had yet to officially announce his defection from the All Progressives Congress, his action was, however, seen as his return to the PDP from where he defected to the APC in 2014.

The PDP described DOGARA’s decision to abandon the President MUHAMMADU BUHARI-led APC as a patriotic and nationalistic move.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, KOLA OLOGBONDIYAN, said in a statement in Abuja that the PDP was proud of the way the Speaker conducted the affairs of the House.
