NPFL Board Banish Abia Warriors and Heartland Over State of Pitches

The home grounds of Abia Warriors in Umuahia, the Abia state Capital  and Heartland FC in Owerri, Imo state,  have been withdrawn from playing hosts to matches in the 2nd round of this 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier League; NPFL, season due to poor condition of the pitches.
The NPFL board had received several complaints on the condition of the pitches from visiting clubs with Video evidence and decided on the fate of the clubs going forward.
Both clubs are expected to select alternative home grounds from 3  NPFL approved venues in Aba, Enugu or Port Harcourt on or before their Matchday 19 fixtures.
The Umuahia Township Stadium & Dan Anyiam Stadium will only be reconsidered for playing hosts to any more NPFL games after appropriate measures are taken to improve the playing surfaces to meet required standards.

Heartland Plunged into Confusion As Imo Governor Orders Reinstatement of Christian Obi

the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma has ordered reinstatement of former Heartland coach, Christian Obi as the head coach of the NPFL side. In a meeting with the Commissioner of Sports, Emeka Okoronkwo, the Governor ordered that Christian Obi should be returned as Technical Adviser. Obi helped Heartland gained promotion from the Nigeria National League last season without a defeat but failed to win a single match in 9 appearances in the NPFL. To this end, in November, 2023, he was asked to leave and replaced with Kennedy Boboye. Under the new coach Boboye, the team have started picking points aiming at leaving the relegation waters but it remains to be seen how this new development will affect the performance of the players.

Dakkada FC Start 2023 With Thanksgiving Service

Ahead of the commencement of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, Uyo-based outfit, Dakkada FC held a special thanksgiving service, Sunday, January 1, 2023, with the theme “The Chosen Ones of God” taken from 1Corinthians 1:27-29. The service was held at the Apostolic Church Afaha Oku district, Oku Village road, Uyo and was attended by high-profile dignitaries including the Deputy Chief Whip of Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly and Executive Member of Nigeria Football Federation, Otuekong Nse Essien, who was the Special Guest of Honour, Commissioner-1 of the Akwa Ibom state Local Service Commission, Honourable Saturday Akpan, the state Director of Sports, Elder Ifiok Duff, the state Chapter Chairman of SWAN, Comrade Emmanuel Akpan and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, who sent in a representative, among others. In his sermon entitled “The safety of everything with God”, the presiding pastor, pastor A. A. Okon lauded the club for committing the upcoming season to God and gave scriptural evidence that God will not disappoint them. He offered special prayers and blessed them. Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Dakkada, Coach Aniedi Dickson, said that the club’s decision to hold the thanksgiving service was borne out of the demonstration of God’s love, blessing and faithfulness towards them over the past few years. “Over the past few years, we have crisscrossed the length and breadth of the country executing NPFL matches and God has ensured that no reports of any bad incidents like accident or attacks have ever emanated from our camp, to His glory”, he said. Mr. Dickson thanked the Governor of Akwa Ibom state, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and appreciated the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Sir Monday Uko, for the employment platform which has been created through Dakkada and made a cash donation to the Church that he described as significant because according to him, it was a sacrificial contribution from all the players, coaches, officials and management staff members without any member of the club being left out. There was time to dine and wine at a sumptuous reception which followed immediately after the service at Dakkada Club House where hymns were sung, goodwill messages received and refreshments taken including the sharing of a 10kg bag of rice to each member of the club which was donated by the Commissioner, Sir Monday Uko. Dakkada who have been drawn into Group B will begin their campaign with a trip to Bayelsa United when the 2022/2023 NPFL gets underway this Sunday, January 8, 2023.

3SC Clears Air on N100m Winnings, IMC Insists Sharing Formula was Outside Organizer’s Knowledge

The management of the Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, has to cleared the air on the prize money of the just concluded NPFL/Doxy Mmobuosi Super Cup Football Tournament.
 3SC were presented a cheque for 100,000,000 naira, being the winner of the 4-team tourney, but the club said they only got 50,000,000 naira as the champions.
‘We will like to inform all that the organisers actually doled out 100,000,000 naira to the club, as seen in the check presented to the Oluyole Warriors’.
However, there was a mutual agreement between the four participating clubs, prior to the commencement of the tourney, that whoever emerges the winner, will part with fifty percent of the money, to be shared by the other three teams.
This was done in the spirit of sportsmanship and also to douse the tension which could attend the tourney if it were to be a winner takes all situation and to ensure that all the participating teams have something to take home, no matter how small.
A memorandum of understanding was signed by the four clubs to back up the agreement.”
Which means Shooting Stars, who won the tourney got 50,000,000 naira, the first runner-up, Enyimba FC got 25,000,000 naira, while third placed Bendel Insurance and fourth placed Rangers International got 15,000,000 naira and 10,000,000 naira respectively.
The Organizers of the pre-season tournet howeve refuted, stating clearly that this was purely an arrangement between the four clubs, outside that of the organisers, hence the presentation of 100,000,000 naira check to Shooting Stars after the final match, other prize monies were given to the other participating teams at the conclusion of the competition.
