BREAKING: INEC Writes Inspector-General of Police to Investigate and Prosecute Adamawa REC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC after a meeting held today; April 18, 2023 over the supplementary Governoship election held in Adamawa state and the ensuring drama has resolved to write to the Inspector General of Police; Usman Alkali Baba to investigate and Prosecute the Adamawa state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari. This was disclosed in a tweet posted in the official handle of the Commission on twitter. The post read; BREAKING NEWS At its meeting today, 18th April 2023, the Commission discussed matters arising from the Adamawa Governorship election and decided to: 1. Write to the Inspector-General of Police for the immediate investigation and possible prosecution of theResident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari. 2. Request the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to draw the attention of the appointing authority to the unwholesome behaviour of the REC for further action. 3. The collation process shall resume at a time to be determined by the Returning Officer. Detailed official statement will follow shortly. This is in response to clamor by Nigerians to have the Resident Electoral Commissioner tried over accusations of violations in processes observed in the re-run Governorship election held on April 15, 2023, in Adamawa State.

New Naira: CBN Directs Banks to Work Weekends

As the January 31, 2023 deadline gets closer, Commercial banks across the country have been directed to operate over the weeked in order to receive the old N200, N500 and N1000 Naira notes. Banks are to open on Saturday January 28th from 9am to close at 3:00pm, and on Sunday, January 29th, they open from 11:00am. The Central bank made this move to ensure that the deadline of Tuesday, January 31 stands for the phasing out of the old Naira notes.

Breaking News: Explosion Rocks Sabo Area of Kano State

An explosion has left several people injured and possibly claimed lives Aba Road in the Sabon Gari area of Kano State. The Explosion was said to have occurred in a building housing a feed store opposite a Primary school on the Popular street. Initial amateur videos had shown school children being evacuated from the scene of the incident while residents where trying to rescue others that were trapped in the rubble. The Department of Security Service (DSS) boss in the state, Muhammad Alhassan; and the Police Commissioner, Samaila Shuaibu Diko, Operatives of the military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) were first respondents at the scene. The Kano State Government has denied that it was an attack on the school, insisting that it was an animal pet store that was destroyed in the explosion. Muhammad Garba, the state Commissioner for Information, said that the government is trying to ascertain the cause of the explosion as well as the level of damage and casualties. He cautioned the public against spreading unsubstantiated news and gave the assurance that the government would keep the public updated on any development on the matter. The Government has called on all to remain calm while the government works with relevant agencies on the matter.
