BREAKING: Kylian Mbappe Agrees 3 Year Extension with French Giant; PSG

French international, Kylian Mbappe has agreed to sign a new three-year deal to stay at Paris Saint-Germain. The Paris Saint Germain forward, whose current contract was due to expire on June 30, had been widely expected to leave the Ligue 1 side with a move to the La Liga champions and Champions League finalists Real Madrid imminent, before the player’s dramatic U-turn. Mbappe joined PSG from Monaco for €180m in 2017, was ready to leave the club on a free transfer upon the expiry of his existing deal. Although the contract is yet to be signed, reports have it that the extension is not un-connected to the Qatar World Cup later this year, where the owners of PSG have huge stakes.

An explosive CAF Confederations Cup Final match came to a climax on Friday night as RS Berkane of Morocco emerged winners of the 2021/2022 Campaign after seeing off Orlando Pirates via a 5-4 penalty shootouts in the finals at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo. The Match was well attended by the creme the la creme of sports in Nigeria and Africa at large. The Minister of Youth and Sports development Sunday Akin Dare was hosted by Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, alongside CAF President; Patrice Motsepe, NFF President Amaju Pinnick among other top dignitaries. The Buccaneers started sharp and created a lot of chances enough have wrapped up the game early had they been clinical enough. As early as the third minute of the game, they had an opportunity when Goodman Mosele sent Dean Hotto through on goal with a through pass but He fluffed his lines. It was to be the first of many such opportunities to be missed. The game stood barren after 90 minutes, forcing it into an extra time of 15 minutes per half. Seven minutes into the first period of added time, RS Berkane who had not created much all game had their best chance to score, and they took it. Referee Janny Sikazwe visited the pitch-side monitor to check on a foul by substitute Monare on Mokadem from a corner-kick. The Orlando Pirates man was adjudged to have swept down Mokadem inside the box. Youssef El Fahli stepped forward to send Ofori the wrong way to net his fifth goal of the campaign. Orlando Pirates fought to get themselves back into contention and piled on the pressure, and were rewarded for their hunger three minutes to the end through a bizarre goal by Lorch. The Orlando Pirates forward had intended to push a pass into the penalty box as they pushed Berkane into their own area. However, his intended pass was missed by everyone and crept into the bottom right of Akbi Hamiani’s goal. The game then went down to the lottery of Penalties as results stoof at a 1-1 draw after regulation and extra time. RS Berkane converted all their five kicks through Hamza El Moussaoui, Youssef Zghoudi, Ismail Mokadem, Issoufou Dayo and Brahim El Bahraoui who scored the winner. Happy Jele scored the first for Pirates before Lorch, who had scored the late equalizer, missed his spot kick. Tshegofatso Mabasa, Thabang Monare and goalkeeper Richard Ofori all went ahead to score their Penalties but the Lorch damage had been done already. The Win handed RS Berrkane their second Confederations cup  in three years and completed a Moroccan total dominance of the tournament in the last three years.

NFF Announces Jose Peseiro as New Super Eagles Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation on Sunday announced the appointment of Mr José Vítor dos Santos Peseiro as the new Head Coach of the Senior Men National Team, Super Eagles. The appointment is with immediate effect, subject to the signing of agreed terms between the NFF and Mr Peseiro.
José Vitor dos Santos Peseiro, 62 last month, is a Portuguese who played as a striker in his days and has wide and varied experience coaching top Clubs and National Teams across four different continents, namely Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. An educationist with a degree in physical education/sports sciences, Peseiro has top-level coaching qualifications/training, and has coached at Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto, Panathinaikos, Rapid Bucharest, Sporting Braga, Victoria Gumaraes, Al-Hilal, Al-Wahda, Al-Ahly Cairo, Sharjah FC and Real Madrid (assistant coach during the Galacticos era), as well as serving as Head Coach of the Saudi Arabian and Venezuelan National Teams.
Peseiro is expected to lead out the Super Eagles for the first time during the upcoming tour of the United States of America, during which the three –time African champions will slug it out with Mexico and Ecuador ‘A’ Teams in prestige friendlies.
The Eagles will tango with the El Tri at the AT & T Stadium in Dallas, State of Texas on Saturday, 28th May before flying to New Jersey to confront Ecuador at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison on Thursday, 2nd June.
The NFF also announced that former Nigeria international forward, Finidi George will now be 1st Assistant to Peseiro, with Salisu Yusuf now to be 2nd Assistant as well as Head Coach of the CHAN and U23 National Teams. Usman Abdallah is 3rd Assistant while Eboboritse Uwejamomere will be the Match Analyst and another former Nigeria international, Ike Shorounmu will be the Goalkeepers’ Trainer.

Nigeria Withdrawn From International Basketball for 2 Years

Nigerian teams will not participate in any international Basketball competition for the next two years. This is as a result of an approval given by the Federal Government for  the immediate withdrawal of Nigeria from all international basketball competitions with immediate effect. The Minister of Youth and Sports Development; Sunday Akin Dare disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Abuja earlier today (thursday). The Minister, represented by Ismaila Abubakar, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, said a committee would be set up to oversee basketball leagues in the country. “Following the unending crisis which have plagued and nearly crippled the development of basketball in Nigeria, President Buhari has approved the withdrawal of Nigeria from all international basketball competitions for a period of two years. “This is with immediate effect,” he said. The minister added that the withdrawal of Nigeria is in order to concentrate efforts by government towards revamping the sport from the grassroots as well as domestic leagues which have become moribund. “This will also allow for the setting up of an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee the management and development of the domestic basketball leagues in Nigeria,”
