Team Nigeria has started its first phase of the National open trials in Abuja and Lagos between December 6thand 9th 2017 ahead of the Commonwealth Games scheduled for Gold Coast, Australia next year.
Athletes participating in Athletics, Para-Athletics and Weightlifting are converging in Abuja, while their counterparts in Boxing, Table Tennis and Para-Table Tennis are already in Lagos for the open trials.
According to the Team Nigeria Preparations Programme released by the Director, Federations and Elite Athletes Department (FEAD), Tayo Oreweme the second phase of the National Open Trials for Basketball and Para-Power-lifting will hold from December 14- 15 in Lagos.
She said dope tests will be carried out on the Athletes during the two day National Open Trials in Abuja and Lagos, to ensure that only clean athletes make it into the closed Camping which starts from December 17th in some sports.
She also urged Sports federations across the Nation to assist in selecting the best to represent Nigeria in Australia, Next year.
